We are going to start of this month with a story from the October/November/December 2008 edition of the Stark County Aqua Life Enthusiasts Society's AQUATIC FORUM. "All About Under the Sea Life Part III" by John Baad continues the series talking about Sea Serpents, Giant Clams, Octopuses, Pink Jellyfish and Leatherback Turtles. Next stop is back on the east coast with 4 articles in the November 2008 issue of North Jersey A.S.'s REPORTER. The first article titled "Bowfin-Amia calva" is a good general description of this native North American Giant. Izzy Zwerin tells us about "Propagating Nymphea stellata" which is a lily that can easily be propagated in an aquarium. The next article is titled "A New Trigger to Shoot the Hobby" by Doug Millard that gives us a brief description of the "new to the hobby" Sufflamen albicaudata. The last article in this issue is titled "No Small Matter-When Selecting Large Plecos" by Chuck Davis. In this article Chuck tells us all about choosing the right Pleco for your tank. Staying on this coast, we have 3 stories in the November 2008 edition of the Diamond State A.S.'s GRAVEL GOSSIP. The first story is titled "Looking at Aeration" by Bob Berdoulay and gives us a good description of how aeration affects our tanks. "Anatomy of a Coral" is a great short story by John D'Agostino of the Brooklyn A.S. and is a very descriptive account of taking care of and propagating Euphyllia ancora, the Hammer coral. The final story in this edition is titled "Julie...The Tanganyikan Beauty!" by J. Ornatus which can only be called a detailed autobiographical story about this pretty yellow Tanganyikan cichlid. Our next stop is in Pittsburgh for 3 articles in the November 2008 issue of the Greater Pittsburgh A.S.'s FINFORMATION. The first article is a BAP Report by Wally Cox titled "Nannacara taenia 'Guyana' that gives a good description of Wally's success with this South American dwarf cichlid. Stan Chechak wrote the second BAP report in this issue, titled "Cryptoheros nanoluteus". Stan does his normal fabulous job in describing his first venture into breeding cichlids. The third BAP article is by Regina Spotti titled "Corydoras similis" and it describes the failures and successes that Regina had breeding this Cory. We now head to the Windy City for 3 stories in the November-December 2008 edition of the Greater Chicago Cichlid Assoc.'s CICHLID CHATTER. The first story is titled "Neolamprologus tretocephalus" by Rick Boester and gives us the reasons for the author's love of the "poor man's Frontosa". Sam Borstein brings us a story titled "John G. Shedd Aquarium High School Lake Ecology Mentorship" in which he tells us about this great program available to High Schoolers through the Shedd Aquarium. The last story in this edition is titled "Petrochromis, My Way" by Mike Garibaldi. Mike gives us some great information on what is needed to care for this cool family of Cichlids. Our final stop this month is in Ohio for 4 articles in the December 2008 - January 2009 issue of the Greater Akron A.S.'s TANK TOPICS. "Basic Aquarium Photography" by Bob Miller is a great follow up to our April photography program. The next article is titled "Corydoras C89" by Carolyn Hanlon in which Carolyn gives us a complete and detailed account of her experiences keeping and spawning the small, attractive Cory that she originally purchased from our May speaker, Eric Bodrock. The third article in this issue is titled "A Fairy Tale" by Unknown that is an interesting and funny story about a "faraway" Aquarium Society. Finally Wayne Toven has us "Going Mad With Aponogeton madagascariensis". This is a very good, detailed description of this beautiful aquarium plant that would make a great addition to anyone's planted tank.
See Everyone on the 16th! |
